Multaq Patient Assistance Program
Multaq is a tablet prescribed for adults to reduce the risk of hospitalization for atrial fibrillation in patients currently in normal heart rhythm who have had certain types of Afib in the past. It contains dronedarone, an antiarrhythmic medication that affects the electrical signals in your heart to prevent episodes of atrial fibrillation from occurring.
Living with atrial fibrillation means dealing with episodes where your heart suddenly races irregularly, leaving you breathless and exhausted. When these episodes happen frequently, they increase your risk of stroke and heart failure. Managing the condition requires consistent medication that keeps your heart rhythm stable. Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) offer a solution for people meeting certain criteria when insurance doesn’t provide adequate coverage for heart rhythm medications.
How Prescription Details Affect Multaq Assistance Eligibility

About the Multaq Patient Assistance Program
Programs are designed for adults managing atrial fibrillation who need help accessing prescribed medication to control heart rhythm. Getting approved provides Multaq for ongoing use, supporting the rhythm control your cardiovascular health depends on.
Your cardiologist or electrophysiologist provides the prescription to start. You’ll gather documentation reflecting household income over the past year.
We coordinate everything after you’ve assembled these materials. Your cardiologist receives contact from us requesting clinical information manufacturers require. Income records undergo conversion into the format their systems expect. Everything moves forward as a single submission. We monitor where it stands throughout the review. Medication arrives at your residence once they approve your case. Program acceptance isn’t guaranteed despite meeting baseline criteria, as manufacturers conduct individual assessments.
How Multaq Works
Atrial fibrillation happens when the upper chambers of your heart develop chaotic electrical activity instead of organized signals that create a regular heartbeat. These disorganized signals cause your atria to quiver rapidly and irregularly.
Dronedarone affects multiple ion channels in heart cells that control electrical activity.
By modulating how sodium, potassium, and calcium move through heart cells, the medication helps restore and maintain normal electrical patterns. This reduces how often atrial fibrillation episodes occur and helps keep you in normal rhythm longer.
You take Multaq twice daily with morning and evening meals. Food improves absorption significantly. The medication builds up over several days before reaching full effect.
Side Effects and Safety Information
Antiarrhythmic medications affect your heart’s electrical system in complex ways. Digestive complaints rank among the most common issues, with diarrhea, nausea, and stomach pain affecting many people. These symptoms sometimes improve after the first few weeks.
Multaq is contraindicated in patients with permanent Afib who will not or cannot be cardioverted; there is an increased risk of cardiovascular death and stroke due to Multaq in these patients.
Weakness and fatigue develop in many users, sometimes severe enough to interfere with daily activities.
Your heart rate may slow more than intended, particularly if you’re also taking beta blockers or certain calcium channel blockers. Serious liver problems can develop during treatment, ranging from elevated liver enzymes to actual liver damage. Regular blood work monitoring becomes essential.
Lung problems including inflammation occur rarely but require immediate attention if you develop new shortness of breath or persistent cough. Multaq can worsen heart failure in people with reduced heart function, and is contraindicated in patients with symptomatic heart failure with recent decompensation requiring hospitalization. Heart rhythm can paradoxically worsen in some people.

- Couples making under $60,000 combined yearly
- Households with three or more people bringing in below $100,000 annually
- Active Multaq prescription from your healthcare provider

- Limited or inadequate prescription drug coverage for Multaq
Income represents a substantial consideration, though additional factors influence final decisions. Applications undergo individual review.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ`s)
Written explanations arrive detailing the specific reasons approval wasn’t granted. Typical issues include household income exceeding program caps, existing insurance deemed sufficient, or applications lacking required documentation. Resubmitting becomes possible if your income changes or you acquire missing paperwork.
Maintaining enrollment beyond initial approval requires annual re-verification. Current income documentation and physician confirmation that Multaq continues being medically appropriate must be submitted within specified timeframes. Missing these requirements terminates participation.
Required materials include your current Multaq prescription from a licensed cardiovascular specialist, comprehensive household income records spanning twelve months, citizenship or legal residency verification, and information describing prescription drug coverage.
We handle enrollment completely from initial steps through final submission. This involves confirming you satisfy baseline standards, compiling necessary documentation, coordinating with your cardiovascular care team, and delivering organized applications to manufacturers.
The FDA has approved generic dronedarone tablets, but availability and coverage may vary. Approved applicants receive brand-name Multaq.
Processing duration fluctuates based on application volume and available staffing resources. We maintain ongoing communication with manufacturers and pass information along as updates arrive.
Program criteria can be modified when manufacturers decide revisions align with their objectives. Income limits might shift, definitions of adequate coverage might evolve, or other factors might adjust. We monitor programs actively and contact participants when changes could affect eligibility.
