Jardiance Patient Assistance Program
Managing type 2 diabetes means keeping up with your medication consistently, but prescription costs can make that challenging.
When insurance doesn’t cover what you need or you’re without coverage altogether, finding ways to get your treatment becomes a real concern. Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) exist for situations like this. PAPs come from pharmaceutical companies that fund initiatives to keep people on their prescribed treatments when insurance gaps leave them without the support they need.
How Prescription Details Affect Jardiance Assistance Eligibility

About the Jardiance Patient Assistance Program
The manufacturer behind Jardiance created this program with adults who have type 2 diabetes in mind, particularly those facing hurdles obtaining their medication consistently.
Once enrolled and if approved, you can access Jardiance at a reduced rate or without any cost. This keeps you on the treatment your doctor prescribed for blood sugar control without the worry of whether you can afford the next refill.
The process starts with your prescription and income documentation. From there, Patient Help Network handles the paperwork side of enrollment, coordinates with your diabetes care team to verify medical information, submits everything to the manufacturer, and watches the approval process. Your medication ships to your house if approved.
How Jardiance Works
Understanding what happens when you take this medication shows why keeping your supply uninterrupted matters.
Jardiance contains empagliflozin, which belongs to a group of medications called SGLT2 inhibitors. These work in your kidneys by blocking the reabsorption of glucose, which means excess sugar leaves your body through urine instead of staying in your bloodstream. This mechanism helps lower blood sugar levels in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes. Jardiance is not recommended in people with type 1 diabetes.
The medication also reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease. Jardiance is also approved for certain adults with chronic kidney disease at risk for progression. You take it as a tablet once daily, typically in the morning, and you can take it with or without food. Your doctor determines the right dose based on how well your kidneys function and how your body responds. Missing doses means your blood sugar control can slip, which raises your risk of diabetes complications over time.
Side Effects and Safety Information
Every medication carries potential side effects, and knowing what to watch for with Jardiance helps you use it safely.
Common reactions include urinary tract infections and genital yeast infections because of the increased sugar in urine. You might also notice increased urination, which happens as the medication works to remove excess glucose. Some people experience dehydration, dizziness, or lightheadedness, especially when first starting treatment.
More serious concerns require immediate medical attention. These include signs of ketoacidosis (even if blood sugar isn’t extremely high), which can show up as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness, or trouble breathing. Serious urinary tract infections that spread to the kidneys need prompt treatment. A rare but serious infection called necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum has occurred with SGLT2 inhibitors and requires emergency care.
People with severe kidney problems shouldn’t take Jardiance, and those on dialysis should avoid it. The medication can also cause low blood pressure, particularly in people already taking blood pressure medications or diuretics. Talk with your healthcare provider about all your current medications and health conditions before starting Jardiance.

How it applies / Eligibility
Programs review who qualifies based on specific criteria they’ve established.
To be eligible, a person must meet these requirements:
- Single patients earning less than $40,000 per year
- Couples making under $60,000 combined yearly
- Households with three or more people bringing in below $100,000 annually
- Active Jardiance prescription from your healthcare provider
- Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency
- Limited or inadequate prescription drug coverage for Jardiance
Your income matters, but it’s not the only thing companies look at when deciding who gets accepted. Programs weigh multiple considerations, and every application goes through individual review based on your particular situation. When programs hit their capacity, they sometimes keep waiting lists, which means applying earlier rather than later could get you enrolled faster.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ`s)
When denial happens, you’ll typically get an explanation. Maybe your earnings exceed what the program allows, or your insurance already covers enough, or some paperwork didn’t make it into your application. If your financial picture changes or you can round up the missing documentation, reapplying is an option.
Your application needs a valid Jardiance prescription from a licensed provider, proof of what your household earns per year, documentation of citizenship or legal residency status, and information about whatever prescription coverage you currently have.
Patient Help Network guides you from beginning to end. We verify you meet initial requirements, gather necessary documents with you, work with your provider’s office for what they need, and submit everything together as a complete application.
No generic equivalent to Jardiance has FDA approval in the United States right now. The medication still has patent protection.
Processing time changes based on how many applications they’re working through and their current review capacity. Patient Help Network stays on top of applications we submit and updates you on status while the review happens.
They can change, yes. Manufacturers might adjust income limits, modify what disqualifies someone based on coverage, or shift other standards. Patient Help Network monitors these requirements and lets applicants know when changes happen that could affect their qualification.
