Farxiga Patient Assistance Program

Type 2 diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease all require medications you can count on.

The price of Farxiga can make staying on your treatment feel impossible when your insurance doesn’t cover enough or when you have no coverage at all. Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) were created for this exact situation. Drug manufacturers operate these programs to help those in need stay on their medications when financial barriers would otherwise force them to stop treatment.

About the Farxiga Patient Assistance Program

Adults managing type 2 diabetes, heart failure, or chronic kidney disease can apply to this program when Farxiga’s cost becomes too much to handle.

Getting approved means you’ll pay less or nothing at all for your medication. Your treatment plan stays intact without the constant worry about affording refills.

You start by getting a prescription from your doctor and gathering proof of what your household earns. Patient Help Network completes your enrollment paperwork, confirms your medical information with your healthcare team, forwards everything to the manufacturer, and watches for approval. If approved, you can expect the medication to arrive at your house.

How Farxiga Works

Farxiga’s active ingredient is dapagliflozin, which falls into the SGLT2 inhibitor category.  Farxiga is approved in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes for glycemic control.

Your kidneys normally pull glucose back into your bloodstream after filtering it out. This medication stops that process, so the extra sugar leaves your body when you urinate. Blood sugar drops in people with type 2 diabetes. Heart failure patients see another benefit because this action reduces fluid buildup and lowers the strain on their heart, cutting down hospital visits.

You’ll take one tablet each day. Food doesn’t matter, so you can take it with breakfast or on an empty stomach, whatever works for your routine. Your doctor picks the right dose by looking at your specific diagnosis and checking how your kidneys are functioning. Run out of this medication or skip doses and you’ll see blood sugar climb or heart failure symptoms get worse, depending on why you’re taking it.

Side Effects and Safety Information

Farxiga produces side effects in some people, and you should know what might happen before starting.

Yeast infections in the genital area and urinary tract infections show up fairly often because sugar in urine creates conditions these infections thrive in. Urinating more frequently is normal since that’s how the medication removes glucose. Feeling dizzy or lightheaded can happen from losing fluids, especially when you first begin taking it.

Serious problems demand quick medical attention. Ketoacidosis sometimes develops even when blood sugar reads normal, and you’ll notice nausea, throwing up, stomach pain, extreme tiredness, or hard breathing. Urinary tract infections that reach your kidneys need fast treatment. A dangerous bacterial skin infection near the genitals has happened rarely with medications in this class and counts as an emergency.

People with badly damaged kidneys or those receiving dialysis shouldn’t use Farxiga. Blood pressure can drop, particularly if you’re already on medications that lower it. Go through your complete medication list and medical history with your doctor before you start.

How it applies / Eligibility

The program looks at specific standards when reviewing applications.

To be eligible, a person must meet these requirements:

  • Single patients earning less than $40,000 per year
  • Couples making under $60,000 combined yearly
  • Households with three or more people bringing in below $100,000 annually
  • Active Farxiga prescription from your healthcare provider
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency
  • Limited or inadequate prescription drug coverage for Farxiga

What you earn matters but doesn’t tell the whole story. Manufacturers examine several aspects when deciding who qualifies, and your application gets looked at based on your individual circumstances. Waiting lists sometimes form when programs fill up, so putting your application in earlier could speed up when you get enrolled.

It’s important to note that some people can meet all of the qualifications above and still not be eligible.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ`s)

What happens if my application gets denied?

You’ll usually find out why when denial happens. Earnings that go over the limits, insurance that already covers enough, or paperwork that came in incomplete are typical reasons. Your circumstances might change, or you might locate the documents that were missing, and then you can apply again.

How do program renewals work?

Every year you’ll renew to prove you still qualify. Fresh income paperwork goes in and your prescription needs to show it’s still current. Let the renewal deadline pass and you’re looking at going through the full application again from the start.

What documents do I need to apply?

A valid prescription for Farxiga written by someone licensed to prescribe it, paperwork showing your household’s yearly earnings, proof you’re either a U.S. citizen or legal resident, and whatever information you have about prescription coverage right now.

How does the Patient Help Network assist with applications?

Patient Help Network takes you through each part. We check that you meet what’s required initially, pull together the documents you need, talk with your provider’s office, and get your complete application turned in.

Is there a generic version of Farxiga available?

Not at this point. The FDA has approved generic dapagliflozin tablets, but the medication still carries patent protection.

How long does the manufacturer review usually take?

How long it takes changes with how many applications they’re handling and what their processing looks like at that moment. Patient Help Network keeps track of what we submit and tells you what’s happening with your application while they review it.

Can eligibility requirements change over time?

Requirements do change sometimes. The manufacturer might raise or lower income limits, adjust what kind of coverage disqualifies you, or modify other factors. Patient Help Network pays attention to these program rules and reaches out to applicants when something shifts that touches their eligibility.
